Why do zines matter?
- We are living in a time of political tension and untrustworthy news sources
- Voices are overshadowed (e.g. minorities, LGBT, women)
- Zines provide an outlet where people can still reliably be heard
- Rookie magazine: “Zine-making isn’t about rules or knowledge; it’s about freedom and power.”
- Zines can be anything the creator wants them to be – a collection of poetry, artwork, photographs, magazine clippings or a combination
- No limit to what you can create
- Zines are an incredible testament to the longevity of print as a journalistic medium, as well as online – easy way to reach a large audience
